LUG Meeting 25/2/12

Better late than never I always say! ;-) Ahem - anyway….this week we continue our telepresence experiments (with ourselves taking the place of the beagles), and we have a Google Hangout running again for the whole meeting, using a new spiffy Logitech 9000 super mega HD webcam (as acquired by Mr Pounder). After a while, its support for Linux turns out to be rather less than ‘super mega’ and Mr P decides he will send it back.

Todays meeting

Well an interesting morning was had by all those present in person and via Google Hangout if we include the virtual presence then it was a record attendance of 12+. Present were Les, Tony, Mike, Donald, John and Crawford on the hangout were. Philip and Rebecca Newborough, Aijaz, Simon (who joined us at one point while walking the dog), Jonathan, a couple of others I don’t know names for including Phil and Rebecca’s Daughter and at least one person who dropped in to see what was going on and probably decided we were totally raving mad and promptly left again shortly afterwards.

MythTV Update - replacing the hard disk

Lug Meeting 18/02/2012

This week at Blackpool LUG we were joined remotely by two of our members, Simon and Tony. Using Google hangout (which for those who weren’t physically present doesn’t yet support teleportation of chocolate biscuits!) LUG attendees Mike, Les, Jon, Donald and Arran were able to interact with the pair; discussing a variety of topics including the recent Hack to the Future event, the Raspberry Pi and Grub 2. ** ** [![]( ]( Simon joins us from home Later on we were also joined (also via Google hangout) by Peter Canon, also known as Dick Turpin from The Dick Turpin Roadshow.

Special Projects Group at Hack to the Future

The hardest working LUG in the UK once again pulled out all the stops! Hack to the Future, a barcamp for kids was held on February 11th 2012. 360 people, 200 children, and 160 adults attended. Adults attended, and lead talks and workshops on computing and technology related content. Children then chose what sessions they wished to take part in. The children loved this event, they got to program, solder electronics, build games, learn how to hack, plus learned more about the IT community.

Blackpool LUG Meeting 04/02/2012

Outside it was cold, but inside there was a warm welcome. This week it was all change at Blackpool LUG, well Mike moved the desks around, and tidied up a bit ;) Tony has installed Crunchbang Linux on his Acer Aspire netbook, he loves it, apart from the touchpad doesn’t work. We shall have to investigate how to make it work, all the drivers are there and the kernel is up to date…mmm think we need @corenominal Jon and Mike discussed Android tablets, such as Mike’s Kogan tablet.
